CREATIVE LEAD IN RESIDENCE, UTS ANIMAL LOGIC ACADEMY

Driven by crafting unique visual experiences for Film, TV, Games and emerging technologies, Chris Ebeling is a world-class Animator, Creative Director and Digital Artist having worked on Hollywood blockbusters such as The Lego Movie’s, The Great Gatsby, Gods of Egypt and Happy feet 2. Supplementing his extensive film and VFX background, Chris has successfully creative directed projects in the real-time space, with experience across games and experiences in Virtual and augmented reality.

Chris’s experience in feature film animation joined with his leadership in education and mentoring made him an ideal candidate for this crucial role in laying the foundations for the Animal Logic Academy at the University of Technology, Sydney, where he currently acts as the Creative Lead.
Here Chris uses his wealth of industry experience to mentor young artists and creators of the future, pushing them to co-create and innovate while testing the boundaries of current and emerging technologies through a first of its kind’ Masters of Animation and Visualisation.

With his extensive experience in games and CG film development coupled with his passion for Virtual and Mixed Reality, Chris’s goal is to help define the visual language and capabilities of these emerging technologies, contributing to understanding and full potential of these interactive media platforms.

UTS ANIMAL LOGIC ACADEMY

Established in 2017, the Academy is a custom built VFX studio and teaching facility at the UTS campus in Sydney Australia. Mentored by industry experts, master’s students are immersed in a full-time studio environment, using a combination of established film VFX processes as well as pioneering use of new tools from the real-time industry.

The MAV (Masters of Animation and Visualisation) is an intensive program which is delivered in an immersive, professional setting that emulates the working environment of highly creative and technology driven studios of animation, digital visual effects and computer-generated imagery industries. The course encompasses digital dexterity, critical and creative thinking, invention, complexity, innovation, emerging technologies, visualisation and virtualisation: leading edge capabilities that will radically expand the problem-solving capacity that is vital in the changing world. Artists will be challenged and mentored to develop these skills and knowledge, that will be immediately transferable to established and emerging CGI – based industries, both in Australia and internationally.

The Academy also offers practice-based PhD research opportunities, current research projects have already won awards at industry festivals, covering areas as diverse as hybrid CG/motion-control film-making, digital archiving techniques, and real-time music visualisation.
