Nik Slotiuk



Nik has held the position of Head of Effects at Rising Sun Pictures in Adelaide since 2017. He made his debut in Australia after 14 years in Canada, working with various studios including Sony Pictures Imageworks, ILM, and Image Engine Design, amongst others. Nik has contributed to many movies, commercials, and episodic series including Tomb Raider, Peter Rabbit, Once Upon A Time, Ghostbusters (2016), Pacific Rim, District 9, Zombieland and Battlestar Galactica, the last for which he received a Primetime Emmy Award as a contributing artist.

Before his role at RSP, Nik spent many years at Zoic Studios working his way to Effects Lead. He has been responsible for the creation and maintenance of FX rigs and set-ups in Houdini for use over multiple shots and sequences by the Effects team. He has worked closely with Pipeline teams and all upstream and downstream department supervisors to find technical I/O solutions between Houdini, Maya and Nuke to ensure the efficient passing of data through the pipeline. He has experience building tools, HDAs and procedures to expedite shot production, while maintaining a high visual quality.

Nik is renowned for his work on challenging and technical shots. He specialises in Houdini Ocean Tools, Crowd Tools, Rigid Body Simulation (RBD, Bullet), Particulate Effects (POPs, nParticles), Krakatoa, Hair / Fur Simulation (Houdini & Maya), Cloth Simulation / Finite Elements, Python Scripting, MEL Scripting, HScript, and VEX.
