Gnomon School of VFX, Games & Animation

Zach Mandt is a seasoned VFX generalist, with a focus on Digital environments, Matte painting, and Concept Art. He has flourished in the entertainment industry for over 12 years, creating high end content for film, commercials, and games including: Speed Racer, Land of the Lost, 2012, Alice in Wonderland, Transformers3, Rock of Ages, Oblivion, 47 Ronin, Maleficent, Beauty and the Beast, and half of the Fast and Furious films.

Zach’s skill set also includes managing teams, concept development, project pitches, right down to running shots himself. With a mix of technical prowess and fine art, he combines 2D and 3D to find the shortest distance between two points, without sacrificing quality in the end result.  His eagerness to adapt new techniques and subsequent technical flexibility has allowed him to step in and help create some of the largest scale shots Hollywood has shown audiences in the past decade.

He has created work for some of the world’s leading studios including Digital Domain, Blur Studios, Café FX and Rythym & Hues.

Zach thrives in high pressure environments, and loves to see a team succeed in bringing an idea or concept to life on the big screen.  He is described by peers in the industry as one of the great Matte Painters “The guy is incredibly fast and really knowledgeable about his craft. He takes a shot and turns it around and makes it look great with what seems like little effort. Its refreshing to work with an artist of his calibre.” Brandon Young, CG Supervisor FuseFX.
